Most of Hilo's hotels are located on Banyan Drive. A sign at the base of each banyan tree on the road tells you who planted it. Some famous planters include Richard Nixon, Babe Ruth, and Amelia Earhart. In a weird coincidence, a flood washed Nixon's tree away on the day he became vice president. He planted another one...the flood waters were heard muttering "I am not a crook!"
