Although festivities were initially delayed due to heavy rain, skies cleared and the Independence Day 2005 Beach Blast was underway. First on the agenda was a bike parade in which kids decorated their bikes in red, white, and blue. Keynote speakers Lieutenant Colonel Anne Daugherty and the Honorable Greta Morris (US Ambassador to the Republic of the Marshall Islands) welcomed everyone and reminded us of what we really celebrate on July 4th. Afternoon activities included a volleyball tournament, carnival games for the kids, swimming, local entertainment, kayak rides, and yes, a decent amount of beer drinking. The evening fireworks display was impressive and was followed by AFE comedians Cash Levy and Kelly Moran (though we didn't stick around for the show).

Simone Smead welcomes everyone during the opening ceremony, with heavy showers knocking at our doorstep.

Most people sought shelter under the pavilion and since it was collocated with the food line, it was a perfect excuse to grab a snow cone, hamburger, or foot-long hotdog.

The rain let up and we were serenaded with a number of cheers from the Camp Adventure Kids.
