December 6, 2003: These are photographs from the Kwajalein Christmas tree lighting ceremony. The festivities began when Mr. and Mrs. Claus arrived on the island in a plane. After being greeted by adults and children alike, the jolly couple climbed into the "Santa Mobile" and paraded on over to the Yowke Yoke club, while tossing candy and gifts to their fans. The ceremony included, in part, Christmas music played by the high school concert band and a number of traditional dances performed by members of the Marshallese Job Corps. Once the tree was lit, those old enough to drink sauntered on over to "downtown" for a wine-tasting party.
