This statue is of a moa - a giant, flightless New Zealand bird that was hunted to extinction in the early 16th century. They weighted up to 550 lbs (250 kg) and could be 10 ft (3 m) tall! Their size, and lack of natural predators, made it easy prey for early human settlers.
