HIGH SURF ADVISORY IS NOW IN EFFECT FOR WAKE ISLAND

LARGE OCEAN SWELLS GENERATED BY A WINTER STORM SYSTEM NORTH OF THE 
AREA ARE EXPECTED TO ARRIVE AT WAKE ISLAND TONIGHT AND RAISE SURF TO 
HAZARDOUS LEVELS.

COMPUTER WAVE MODEL GUIDANCE INDICATE THAT THE LONG PERIOD NORTHWEST 
SWELL WILL RAPIDLY INCREASE FROM 4 FEET THIS EVENING TO 18 FEET BY 
NOON WEDNESDAY. THIS WILL RESULT IN SURF HEIGHTS OF 20 TO 25 FEET ON 
WESTERN CLOCKWISE THROUGH NORTHERN EXPOSURES.

COASTAL AND AIRFIELD INUNDATION IS POSSIBLE...ESPECIALLY AROUND 
TIMES OF HIGH TIDE...DEPENDING ON THE WIND DIRECTION. 

PEOPLE ON WAKE ISLAND SHOULD STAY AWAY FROM EXPOSED BEACHES AND 
REEFS THROUGHOUT THE HIGH SURF EVENT.

THE NEXT ADVISORY WILL BE ISSUED AT 12 PM GUAM LST WEDNESDAY OR 
SOONER IF NECESSARY.
